Have you ever given an author a second chance after a disappointing book — and been glad you did? 👀

TBH, I don't think I ever have🙈. It's generally the other way round for me. I try an author, the book is excellent. Then I try another book from the same author and I don't like it. Most of the times.

But I know that sometimes one book just doesn’t click, but the next one makes you fall in love with the author's writing. I’m curious to know if that’s ever happened to you — and which author it was! I'll try that with Taylor Jenkins Reid. I read Atmosphere, not the biggest fan. But I'm willing to try her other books.

What I ♥️:

⭐Fast-paced, page-turner energy—classic Patterson.
⭐Works well as a standalone, with just enough context for new readers.
⭐Two threads—high-stakes judge murders and a chase for a shadowy figure—cleverly converge into one big case.
⭐A nod to the RCMP at the British Columbia border with Idaho🇨🇦🚔

What I 💔:

👉🏾The big twist? Way too obvious—and that undercuts the suspense.
👉🏾A detail from Chapter 1 never gets resolved (a tiny detail but my mind is not at rest. I need closure🤣)
👉🏾The snowy wilderness scenes were hard to visualize. I kept thinking “Wait… what does that even look like?” And I’m a visual reader.

Not a bad thriller—it has the bones of a great one. But it left me hovering: “This is James Patterson—I expected edge-of-your-seat thrills, not just a gentle jog.” Maybe I’ll take a thrilling break for a minute (just like my bookish friend @thefictionphysician ).

❓Do you have to picture every scene when you read? For me, that’s where the magic lives—books like The Poppy War or Where the Crawdads Sing made me see every detail.
❓Are thrillers becoming predictable, or am I just on a bad run?

Guys, I’m not usually a pure romance reader, but @kennedyryan1 (and @tiawilliamswrites ) might actually be changing my mind about this genre!

Synopsis: Imagine running a restaurant with your ex-husband (I'm not saying you have one😁). Imagine co-parenting with them. Now imagine still having the kind of chemistry that could melt butter on the spot. That’s Yasmen and Josiah.

My ♥️

⭐The realism—Yasmen’s depression, her strained bond with her daughter, Josiah trying to move on. Messy, raw, and relatable.

⭐Kennedy Ryan doesn’t just write romance, she writes life: grief, friendship, parenting, healing.

⭐Her candid take on Black men and therapy—so important and so honest.

My 💔

👉🏾Too many “what did your therapist say?” moments. I wanted more of their own voices instead of echoes of advice.

👉🏾And let’s be honest: Kennedy Ryan owes me an apology for how many times she made me cry in public😂.

✨ Deep takeaway: This isn’t just a love story—it’s about healing, being seen, and sometimes finding your way back to the same person, stronger than before.

My Two for Tuesday is quite different😁. 2 books for 2$ purchased at the public library. The librarian I met there raved about Looking for Jane and said there are mixed reviews about The Paper Palace. I love books with mixed reviews so I'll see what I think about that one.

I’ve been at the hospital with my 2 kiddos (4yrs and 2yrs) since mid-July — not to say too much, but they’re okay. Don't you worry💛. They just need some rehabilitation, so we’ll be here for the whole summer.

Luckily, there’s a book cart, "a Lending Library" close to our room where you can leave a book and take a book! Yay! Of course, I couldn’t resist swapping a Stephen King for a Stephen King. Isn't it a fair trade? 😏📚 Swipe to see the swap I made.

Between my own reads and the treasures I can find here, I think my summer TBR just got an unexpected twist.
