For me, no. I like learning about others' lives. Now they way that experience is narrated will make me appreciate the book, not the experience itself. Actually, I tend to avoid books that echo my own experience😂. They will hit too close to home.

Have you ever started a book, then got the impression that this is not a book that you can read while lying down, but that you must sit upright and be focused because it seems the author is about to tell you a story so important and you don't want to miss a single thing? Yeah? This is that kind of book!

📖 Book Review: Safe by S.K. Barnett
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

This one was recommended by @book_andasong and honestly… I’m so glad I picked it up!

🌀 Safe is a fast-paced psychological thriller that kicks off with a mystery: a girl who went missing at six suddenly returns home twelve years later. Her family is stunned—but not everything adds up. And Jenny? She’s not just trying to fit back in. She starts to feel like they’re hiding something too. Why are they acting so strange? What’s lurking beneath the surface? As she starts to dig and snoop around, things get very interesting. Who’s lying? What’s the truth?

🏃🏾‍♀️The pacing. No boring bits. It constantly made me go “just one more chapter…”
🥨The twists! Some come early on and I was like, okay so if THIS is out already, what more is there? But trust me, there is more.
👧🏼The main character isn’t particularly likeable—but she is complex. She’s been through a lot, and trauma changes people. I didn’t love her, but I understood her.

🔚 The ending. Big twist? Yes. But it felt a bit abrupt and far-fetched. You know those reveals that make you rethink the entire book in hindsight, and everything suddenly clicks into place? This wasn’t quite that. And for me, that’s what makes a great thriller. Like, when the breadcrumbs were right there the whole time and you just didn’t see it? That kind of reveal feeds my soul on a spiritual level 😂 It’s like a reader’s high 🤣

That said, I still really enjoyed it—and I’d actually love to discuss it with someone. I have mixed feelings about certain parts, and that always makes for the best book chats.
