Currently reading 📚 — p.124 and here’s what I know so far:

💡 A woman is found dead. Her emergency contact is Charlotte. Charlotte has no idea who she is. 🤷🏾‍♀️
💡 Charlotte was an extremely good surgeon. Emphasis on was. She’s now an acupuncturist… I don’t know why. 🤷🏾‍♀️
💡 Rachel is lying to Charlotte. About what? I don’t know. 🤷🏾‍♀️
💡 Charlotte has a boyfriend. Peter. He claims he’s a spy 🙄 disappears for days, then comes back like “hey honey, secret mission.”
…She believes him. I don’t know why. 🤷🏾‍♀️
💡 A surgeon suddenly becomes Charlotte’s client. He looks suspicious. I don’t know why, but he does. 🤷🏾‍♀️
💡 Rachel is having conversations with a man about Charlotte. The man wants to kill Rachel. She knows it.
…Yet she stays close to Charlotte. I don’t know why. 🤷🏾‍♀️
💡 There are two detectives on the case. I love them. I don’t know why. 🤷🏾‍♀️
💡 There are snippets of online chats between women (I think?). Usernames everywhere.
Who is Miserylovescompany?? I don’t know. 🤷🏾‍♀️

THE ONLY THING I KNOW:
The dead woman sent Charlotte flowers days before she died.No name. No message.
Charlotte thinks it’s from Peter.…Triple 🙄

At this point, I’m entertained AND confused 🤣
I just need everything to make sense in the end… and not in a “we rushed this in the last 10 pages” kind of way.

Late-night road trip. This is me on our way to Montréal last Friday night. A reading passenger princess😂. Lost in a whole other world.

🚗The Social Coordinator.
Keeps the driver awake with nonstop chatter, random stories, and deep life debates at 11:47 pm.

🚗The Burnt-Out Queen.
Asleep before the GPS even says “Head north.”
(She packed everything. Let her rest.)

🚗The Snack Curator.
Has a full menu. Sweet, salty, drinks, backup snacks… possibly a surprise dessert.

🚗 The Co-Pilot Angel.
Takes over the wheel when needed so the driver can also live his/her passenger princess life.

🚗The DJ-in-Chief
Controls the vibes. No skips. No nonsense. Emotional transitions included.

🚗The Navigator (Who May or May Not Be Wrong)
“Turn here.”
It was not here.

🚗The Backseat Driver (Respectfully… or Not)
“You’re a bit close to that car.”
“Brake.”
“BRAKE.”

Today’s case: Preferring the movie adaptation — bold honesty… or literary blasphemy? 🎬📚

The evidence is disturbing.
Witnesses report readers saying: “The movie was better.” Gasps were heard. Bookshelves shook. A few paperbacks almost filed for emotional damage.

And now, with the buzz around Project Hail Mary 👀🍿 — some are claiming the adaptation actually… did justice to the book.

The defense argues:
🎬 “Visual storytelling brings it to life.”
The prosecution fires back:
📚 “The book had depth. Inner thoughts. NUANCE.”

👩🏽‍⚖️ Judge Plot-Twist would like to remind the court that enjoying both is allowed… but choosing the movie over the book may require… spiritual reflection. 😌

Reading How to Say Babylon by @safiyasinclair stayed with me longer than I expected.

Not just the story. But what it revealed about toxic relationships.

Leaving a toxic relationship is often seen as a moment.A decision. A final step. A clear break.

But it rarely looks like that. Sometimes, leaving starts quietly.
In small shifts.
In subtle acts of resistance.
In the way something inside you begins to say: this isn’t right.

This book made me realize this:
Leaving isn’t just courage.
It’s awareness. Preparation. Support. It takes time.
And most of all…
It’s a process.

Her prose is rich, vivid, almost alive. The imageries!! The metaphors!! Thank you @safiyasinclair for writing such a powerful book. 🇯🇲She takes us inside a Rastafari household shaped by control and fear, but also by resilience and quiet strength. 👨‍👩‍👧Her father is one of the most complex figures I’ve read about in a memoir. Violent. Controlling. Unpredictable. And yet… deeply wounded. You can trace the fracture lines of his life—rejection, abandonment, a childhood starved of love—and see how they twisted into something harmful. It doesn’t excuse what he did. But it adds a layer that makes you pause. He wanted to be a king in a world that had always made him feel small. And so, he ruled the only place he could—his home. ⚖️Still… I won’t lie. I struggled with her forgiveness. A part of me wanted justice. Consequences. Distance. But hey, healing doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. 👩‍🍼If there is a quiet hero in this story, it is her mother. She protected her children the only way she could, creating a fragile but powerful bubble where their minds could still expand. Their brilliance, their academic excellence—it didn’t happen by chance. It was cultivated. By her. 👧🏾Here is what stayed with me the most. Safiya's story is, at its core, about leaving. Not just physically—but internally. ✈️Leaving doesn’t happen all at once. It starts within. In small rebellions. In choosing yourself, piece by piece. 💭📚And through it all, this book reminds us of the power of education, of books, of dreaming. There was nothing in her environment that suggested she would become the writer she dreamed of being. And yet… she did. She built that path, word by word.
